A Laugh to Cry de Miguel Azguime e Paula Azguime é concebida como uma viagem iniciática - uma travessia pela noite das trevas para chegar à luz, neste caso à luz do amanhecer, por via do sonho daqueles que ousam sonhar.

Atravessar a noite é apontar o dedo à destruição que estamos a provocar e que se manifesta na nossa própria eventual extinção.

E no desespero de não encontrar solução, será o suicídio da humanidade a sua única capacidade de resposta?

A Laugh to Cry assegura que, na criação, reside a possibilidade de renovação - e, no poder da arte, a recusa do silêncio.

 A Laugh to Cry é visceral, íntima e profundamente humana.

Convida-nos a ouvir e a viver não apenas as palavras, os sons ou as imagens, mas aquilo que existe dentro deles:

O sopro.
A fractura.
O riso que esconde o soluço.
O soluço que esconde o grito.
O grito que ecoa o que não se pode negar.

A Laugh to Cry é uma ópera de uma acutilante actualidade temática que explora algumas das preocupações do ser humano, no contexto de um mundo globalizado, formalizando-se numa reflexão sobre o poder hegemónico de destruição da memória, sobre a devastação da Terra, sobre a guerra;  especulando sobre o próprio colapso da humanidade.
A ópera desenvolve-se na orla entre o sonho e a realidade, entre o visível e o invisível, entre o riso e o choro, pondo em cena arquétipos eternos.  Com música e libreto multilíngue de Miguel Azguime, a encenação assenta em projecções vídeo múltiplas, construídas em simbiose a partir do texto e da música, interpretada por um jovem elenco de cantores e pelos músicos do Sond’Ar-te Electric Ensemble dirigidos pelo Maestro Pedro Neves.
A interpretação envolve cinco personagens, representados por duas sopranos, um baixo e dois narradores (feminino e masculino); 7 instrumentos acústicos: flauta, clarinete, violino, viola, violoncelo, piano e percussão e meios electrónicos em tempo real.

A Laugh to Cry by Miguel Azguime and Paula Azguime is conceived as an initiatory journey — a passage through the night of darkness to reach the light, in this case the light of dawn, by way of the dream of those who dare to dream.

To cross the night is to point the finger at the destruction we are causing, which manifests itself in our own eventual extinction.

And in the despair of finding no solution, will the suicide of humanity be its only capacity for response?

A Laugh to Cry affirms that, in creation, lies the possibility of renewal — and, in the power of art, the refusal of silence.

A Laugh to Cry is visceral, intimate and profoundly human.

It invites us to hear and to live not only the words, the sounds or the images, but that which exists within them:

The breath.
The fracture.
The laughter that conceals the sob.
The sob that conceals the cry.
The cry that echoes what cannot be denied.

A Laugh to Cry is an opera of sharp thematic relevance that explores some of the concerns of the human being in the context of a globalized world, taking shape as a reflection on the hegemonic power to destroy memory, on the devastation of the Earth, on war; speculating on the very collapse of humanity.

The opera unfolds at the boundary between dream and reality, between the visible and the invisible, between laughter and weeping, bringing eternal archetypes to the stage. With music and a multilingual libretto by Miguel Azguime, the staging is built on multiple video projections, created in symbiosis from the text and the music, performed by a young cast of singers and by the musicians of the Sond'Ar-te Electric Ensemble conducted by Maestro Pedro Neves.
The performance involves five characters, played by two sopranos, a bass and two narrators (female and male); 7 acoustic instruments: flute, clarinet, violin, viola, cello, piano and percussion, and electronic media in real time.
