Recital Camila Mandillo • “… And now for something slightly different”

  • O'culto da Ajuda 25 Travessa Zebras Lisboa, Lisboa, 1300 Portugal (map)

“… And now for something slightly different”

"Across four centuries of music, composers have turned to humour, irony and wit, not as a distraction from seriousness, but as a way of confronting the complexities of life.

From sly parody to theatrical exaggeration, from playful mischief to biting absurdity, laughter has always had its place on the concert stage.

This recital follows that thread, leaping from century to century, showing how works written hundreds of years apart unexpectedly echo one another in diverse and surprising ways. Surprise, transformation, and contrast guide the listener through a kaleidoscope of centuries and styles, revealing unexpected continuities and forming a journey through musical laughter: a celebration of imagination, theatricality, and human folly.

“…And now for something completely different” - a phrase borrowed from Monty Python’s irreverent sketches - is not only a title but an ethos.

To laugh is to recognize ourselves across generations, across borders, across the whole history of music."
