O Júri do Concurso Internacional de Composição Electroacústica Música Viva 2020, constituído pelos compositores Claude Cadoz (França), James Dashow (EUA) e Miguel Azguime (Portugal), decidiu atribuir o 1.º Prémio ao compositor Zhaoyu Zhang (China) pela obra “Inheritance”; e distinguiu ainda com Menções Honrosas as obras – “MusicThatMoneyCanBuy” de Simone Conforti (Suíça/ Itália) e “Adumbrations” de David Q. Nguyen (EUA).
Nascido na China e residente no Canadá, Zhaoyu Zhang cresceu na Mongólia, cuja herança cultural exerce uma influência relevante na sua criação musical. O conceito de “herança” é a chave na percepção do desenvolvimento sonoro da obra “Inheritance”, em que os materiais são replicados e animados a partir de um ponto de partida comum. A música de Zhaoyu Zhang será apresentada na 27.ª edição do Festival Música Viva, em 2021.
The Jury of the Música Viva 2020 International Electroacoustic Composition Competition, constituted by the composers Claude Cadoz (France), James Dashow (USA) and Miguel Azguime (Portugal), has decided to give the 1st Prize to the composer Zhaoyu Zhang (China) for the work “Inheritance”, as well as two Honourable Mentions – to Simone Conforti (Switzerland/ Italy) for the work “MusicThatMoneyCanBuy” and to David Q. Nguyen (USA) for the work “Adumbrations”.
Born in China and residing in Canada, Zhaoyu Zhang grew up in Mongolia, whose cultural heritage has significantly influenced his music. The concept of “inheritance” is the key to follow the sonic development of his awarded work, where the materials are replicated and animated from a common starting point. Zhaoyu Zhang’s music will be presented at the 27th edition of the Música Viva Festival, in 2021.
